FAQ about 4 Carat Natural Diamonds
How much is a 4 carat loose diamond worth?
The value of a 4 carat diamond is largely going to be determined by the 4C’s and the shape. Round brilliant cut diamonds, no matter the carat weight, are going to be the most expensive option because they are the most sought after. Cut is always going to be the most important of the 4C’s because that’s how it gets its sparkle and shine. Color and clarity are more up to personal preference. For the clarity, you want to go for a diamond that is eye clean - typically a VS2 or higher, but some SI1’s can be eye clean. For the color, go with what you like! Want an icy white diamond? Stick with a DEF. Don’t mind a little warmth? An H-K is a great option. The most popular color grade is going to be a G. It faces up white but doesn’t have the hefty price tag of a colorless diamond. A well cut, round brilliant 4 carat diamond has a starting price of just over $40,000 in the K/SI2 range and goes up to just over $197,000 for a D/VVS2.
How big is a 4 carat diamond?
A 4 carat diamond measures approximately 10mm. For comparison, a dime measures 18mm. This diamond is going to be large and take up quite a bit of room on the finger.
How much are 4 carat diamond rings worth?
In addition to the value of the 4 carat diamond, which largely depends on the 4C’s, the setting choice is going to play a big part in determining the overall value of the ring. The more detailed the setting, the more expensive the ring is going to be. For example, the Oceana Three Stone Engagement Ring has a cost of $8,650 when set in platinum whereas the Windy Solitaire Engagement Ring only costs $630 for platinum.
Is a 4 carat ring big enough for an engagement ring?
Yes! Any size diamond is big enough for an engagement ring. Since an engagement ring is a symbol of your everlasting love and commitment it doesn’t matter what the carat weight is. Just be sure to come up with an affordable budget and the gemologists here at Rare Carat can help you decide on the best carat weight, color and clarity!
How to find the best 4 carat diamond deal from Rare Carat?
Since cut is the most important of the 4C’s, start with using the Rare Carat Ideal filter in the cut grade section on the search page. This will ensure that you are getting a well cut diamond with ideal proportions (table, girdle, depth and crown angle). Next, determine the color and clarity. Hint: A G color grade is going to face up white, but doesn’t cost as much as a DEF colorless grade. Also, a VS1 or higher for clarity will ensure an eye clean diamond, but most VS2’s are eye clean as well! Finally, consider adding some fluorescence - especially in the G or lower color range. This will help the diamond face up whiter and may help with the price. If you ever have questions about how a diamond looks that has fluorescence, we can ask the seller for you!
