Is a radiant cut the same as a cushion or an emerald cut?
No, though it borrows from both. A radiant has the straight sides and cropped corners of an emerald cut with the brilliant faceting of a round, so it sparkles like a round, hides inclusions like a cushion and has the outline of an emerald cut. An emerald cut is a step cut with long flat facets and a quiet, mirrored look; a cushion has rounded corners and curved sides. If you like the rectangular outline but want fire rather than flash, radiant is the answer; if you want the hall of mirrors, choose emerald.
What ratio should a radiant cut diamond be?
Square (1.00 to 1.04) if you want a princess cut look with safer corners, 1.20 to 1.40 if you want an elongated stone that lengthens the finger. Both are well stocked: 2,497 square and 85,978 elongated lab radiants are on this page today. Very long radiants can show a faint bow tie, so check the 360 video on anything above 1.40. The exact ratio is on each product page and the tables above show what each outline costs.
What clarity does a radiant cut diamond need?
Less than most shapes. The crushed ice faceting hides inclusions, so a natural SI1 radiant is usually eye clean and VS2 almost always is; in one carat natural radiants with G to H color, SI1 starts at $1,055, VS2 at $930 and VS1 at $1,160. Lab radiants are mostly VS1 and cleaner anyway: VS1 among D to F lab radiants starts at $385. Spend the clarity saving on color, which a radiant shows in its corners.
Do radiant cut diamonds chip?
Rarely, and less than princess cuts, because the corners are cropped rather than pointed. A radiant's eight sides have no sharp vertices to catch on a doorframe, and a standard four prong setting protects the cropped corners fully. Like any diamond it can chip under a hard knock to the girdle, so a stone with a very thin girdle on the report deserves a bezel or a six prong setting; most radiants here are cut with a medium girdle and need nothing special.
Are radiant cut diamonds graded by GIA?
Natural radiants at Rare Carat mostly are: 11,879 of the 12,178 carry GIA reports and 299 carry IGI reports. Lab radiants are graded mostly by IGI (78,317 of 88,897), with 8,317 GIA and 2,263 GCAL. No lab grades cut on a radiant, so the report gives color, clarity, weight and measurements and the video gives the performance. After you order, our New York staff match the inscription to its report under a microscope.
Can I finance a radiant?
Yes. Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, PayPal Pay Later and Katapult are offered at checkout, with the terms shown before you commit; a $597 lab radiant or a $2,398 natural one becomes a monthly payment. Paying monthly changes nothing else: shipping is still free and insured, returns free for 30 days, resizing free in the first year, and the setting carries a lifetime manufacturing warranty.
